Quick Homemade Wedding Gift.

tawk of the day, "Laugh until your belly hurts and then just a little bit more."

Good Morning :)

A few weeks ago I made a handmade shabby chic sign for a couple who is getting married at the end of July..
ANYONE can make this for someone..
Whether it is for a wedding gift, bridal gift, baby shower, new home owners... etc..
So stay tuned for a cute little personalized gift anyone would love to get as a gift ;)

First, I went to my scrap pile of wood I received from my rents house..
I picked one fairly shaped nice and gave it a good sanding on ALL the edges, front & back.

After that, I got out my MINWAX stain in Dark Walnut.
I stained just the side I was using and all the sides as well.
I wanted my letters to show through as stained wood.. I think the whole looks just completes the whole project!

With my friend's cricut machine I cut out their LAST NAME, est., and the DATE of the wedding onto Contact Paper Adhesive (This stuff is SOOO much cheaper than wall decal & is a more affordable choice when using it just for projects like this)

After making sure I got out all the bubbles and went over it with a straight edged gadget to make sure the letters were on good :) so no leaks happen!

I let that dry for about a half hour, it dries REALLY fast.. I only did one coat of paint.
I pealed of the letters with a toothpick. Carefully!

With a piece of sand paper, I went over all the letters to blend them into the wood.. If you use a handheld sander, the letters may get sanded completely lol.
I wanted a real shabby chic look so I got out my sander and did all the edges and a couple spots on the face of the sign itself.

Just a closeup of the sanding job.

I love how it turned out..

Picture of the completed project.
I did spray a clear coat over top to seal it and make it a little shinier.

I also made this one:::

  2. They look great! And I agree, sander for the edges and by hand for the letters. I've gotten a little carried away with the sander before...haha!

Oh, and I LOVE that blue color!

    1. Hi Samantha! .. Thanks for the feedback.
The paint I used was Valspar. and the color I used was called Twilight Meadows.. I had a sample of it on hand from another project!
