Home Tour & new projects in the making!!

Tawk of the  day:  "A fool will vent all his feelings, whereas a wise man holds them back.."

Here on J House Tawk I have yet to post a 'home tour'.  At the moment I'm trying to get some of my house in order to take some pictures of my favorite spaces of my home!.
{Of course, there are MANY spaces that have yet to be 'photo' worthy!!}

I have done a TON of projects also, but haven't had the time nor energy to take pictures, edit them, and upload them... UGH.
With a 3 year old and a 1 year old it is HARD! I know 3/4 of y'all can agree!!  There's always that one person who makes the rest of us feel less-motivated!  They are what I call *Super MOM*
That is NOT me.. ;)

So bare with me, new crafts will be a-coming.
I can't wait to share them ALL!!

**Remember, in the meanwhile, check out my Etsy Shop!

New items in the shop!

Hey all!
I wanted to let my viewers know that I added 4 items to my shop!

www.etsy.com/shop/jhousetawk

Holy Cow, It's been a while!

HEY! .
It's been about a year since my last post, right?... Nahhhh, maybe not quite that long, but close :)

I have a whole bunch of posts I could share at this point, but I'll start with one that I know I have pictures of and such.

This post I will share a project I did using that drawer from the antique buffet I redid and am currently using as a TV console!

I saved the face of the drawer hoping to find another project I could do with it.  Cause I'm into old stuff and hoarding like that ya know?! .. Ya.

So I patched up the holes from the previous hardware and painted her a yellow.
Then I glazed her with a homemade mixture of glaze and black paint.
I added some new hardware from none other than Hobby Lobby! ..
3.99$ and bought them when they were 50% off! . So I only paid 1.99$.

Here is the outcome and I'm loving it.

Now that I've posted this.. Hopefully you save those old drawers from previous projects! You never know what is in store for them or what you can make of them!

Hope you enjoyed, feel free to 'PIN IT' !!

Antique Buffet {now} my new TV console.

This has been a post I've been DREAMING about posting for almost a year now!!
I purchased an antique buffet for $50.00 almost a year ago and have been wanting to turn it into our family room's new t.v. console!
Well.. this has finally happened! .. With a 3 month old and a 2 year old, it was a little hard to find the time to finish it.
I can't wait to reveal these pictures. . The before and after will shock you!
ARE YOU READY FOR THIS?!

*BEFORE*

*AFTER*
First thing I did was sand the top of the stand and with a cloth I applied a dark walnut stain.
After that dried, I did two coats of polyurethane.
I painted this with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint in the color OLD WHITE.
It is very pricey stuff, buttttt... I'm ALL about the no-prep. work required before painting..
Yep.. NO sanding, NO priming.. SOLD!

After two coats of paint, I lightly sanded to give it a distressed finish.
I then added a coat of ANNIE SLOAN WAX. in clear.
I just applied mine with a white old rag. .. I am much too cheap right now to purchase a wax brush. :(

I took out the bottom drawer so I could fit my tv stuff under there!
I love the unique-ness of the drawer, but this way it looks more like a tv stand. Plus, it was not in the best of shape any ole how.
I also bought new knobs from HobbyLobby. for $1.49 each on sale!

What are your thoughts? .. I am in LOVE with it.
Already looking for more antiques that I can repaint.. HAHA.

Little Stool Makeover

When we bought our house 4 years back, we also inherited a little wooden yellow stool.
Let's face it, when you're short like me, you can use any help you can get! .. So I decided to keep this little eye sore..
I have just gotten around to getting the idea of redoing it so I can just use it as decor as well as a helpful boost to my height.

Here is the before picture::

Here is a 'during' picture::

Here are some pictures of it all complete::

Steps:
1.) I sanded the top completely and the side.

2.)  Lightly sand the underside of the stool and the legs as best I could.

3.)  I stained the top and side with MinWax Dark Walnut Stain.

4.)  After that dried a bit, I flipped the stool over and gave it 2 coats of ASCP in Old White (I chose to use chalk paint because I didn't have any primer on hand & with chalk paint you do not need to sand or prime or do any kind of prep work... My kinda DIY!)

5.)  Poly'd the stain.

6.)  Lightly sanded and then used Annie Sloan Clear Wax on the underside and legs.

Antique Rocking Horse

About a year ago my husband's grandparents had given us this antique rocking horse.
I love it, however it needed some major updating.. the yarn hair was yucky, it was all marked up, and the little sticker embellishment had to leave! ... :)
I FINALLY have gotten around to re*sanding this baby and re*staining.
After re-staining it like 5 times, I gave up on the whole wooden look.
The stain was just not cooperating!!.. It was so uneven I was getting so frustrated!
So I took a trip to JoAnn's and bought some primer with a 40% off coupon.
and scored 2 Rustoleum 'Summer Squash' spray cans for (you ready for this?!...) $1.97!!
I was happier than a kid in a candy store.
Afterwards, I applied 2 coats of poly.

Anyways.. Here are some BEFORE PICTURES.. & AFTER PICTURES
:::

HERE ARE THE AFTER PICTURES
::::
I just used all the original hardware.
I also used the same eyeballs and didn't do anything to the handle.
& crochet'd a whole new mane and tail.
I made a loop in the mane so the handle wouldn't be covered with it.
The tail was crochet'd using a curlicue scarf tutorial.
They were then applied with a hot glue gun.
::::
Jayden is the name of my first born so I painted on his name on one side of the horse.
Jensen is going to be the name of this July baby whether it's a boy or a girl so I painted that name on the other side of the horse!

What do you think!?
