--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We were outside cleaning up sunday while the sun was out ;)
Now that I'm a total DIYer when it comes to decorating, my mind never stops.
I came across a bucket of extra trim we had in the garage..

HMMM.. What could I possibly do with all this trim? I was grasping for ideas when it hit me..

Here is my sign made from our stash of leftover Trim,

Want to learn how::::Read the following steps::::

1.) So I started painting each individual piece of trim. (I had 5)
A pale yellow, bright aqua, and 3 other neutral colors..
After just one coat, I let them dry for about a half hour.

2.) Then I sanded them down a bit with some sand paper I had (any ordinary stuff will work)

3.) Get out your cricut machine! ... Decide what you would like your sign to say..
Cut out the saying..

4.) With JUST the background of the saying, stick it where you'd like your saying to be. (Instead of wasting a load of money on wall decal paper, I used contact paper.. found at TJMAXX for 5$ for 150 feet!)  Contact paper is perfect.. it sticks well enough to not let paint run

5.)  After you get your saying on, where the rest of baseboard is peaking through, tape it all up with extra contact paper, or painters tape or any tape so that JUST the letters are showing!

6.)  Take out side and with black spray paint, spray all your letters.. I only did one coat of spray paint..

7.)  After you give that a half hour to dry, gently peal off the tape and contact paper.
(If you pull hard, the tape will take some of the letter's paint with it)  The tape will take off more of the trim's paint itself, but don't worry it only adds more character!!!

8.)  Now set the pieces of trim out on the carpet..  It's time for hot glue.
First, I hot glued my 'fearfully and wonderfully' trim boards together because the letters ran together on both pieces and I didn't wanna lose that for when i flip them all over and glue them together.

9.) Flip them all over and place them how you'd like to see them on your wall.. Glue the creases of the boards together (only from the back.. you don't want a mess on the front!)

10.)  Hammer in a little bracket so you can hang your masterpiece!!!

11.)  Now take 2 paint stirrers.. or rulers.. and hot glue them vertically so they are on top of ALL the trim pieces.. one on one side and one on the other (picture will be below)

12.) Let the glue dry and that's it!! Very easy I must say so myself :)

I'm super pleased at how it turned out! More pictures are below ,

Thanks, hope you liked it!

  17. Did you put the contact paper in the cricut? I am not sure how you got the letters to reverse and paint them

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes I did.. I threw away the letters themselves, and used the remaining .. It's hard to explain it in words lol.. so the background i guess.. U understand?

  18. great idea, love it. I was wondering how well the hot glue held? I thought about short screws or nails might hold a little better.

    1. Yes they probably would work better, but the husby wasn't around to help with that part beings I don't know how to do that (lol) .. BUT.. My sign is STILL HOLDING UP great with just the HOT GLUE! It's still kicking up there on the wall.. :)

    1. Hi Kasie!..
I believe the 'fearfully & wonderfully' font is "TALL BALL" .. and the cricut cartridge is Plantin Schoolbook! ..the other words in the verse I think I just used roly poly and shadow :)

    2. okay.. scratch the roly poly.. I didn't use that one! .. :) Shadow for the others.

  38. I ran across your site last week and started to follow your posts consistently. I haven’t commented on any kind of blog site just yet but I was considering to start soon. It’s truly exciting to actually contribute to an article even if it’s only a blog. I really don’t know exactly what to write other than I really loved reading through a couple of of your articles. Great articles for sure. I will keep visiting your blog regularly. I learned a lot from you. Thanks! Raj post exam
